This page is from a collection I made for the reunion for the 50th anniversary of when I left school. I loved my time at this school and made some great friends who were a huge influence on my life, some of whom I keep in touch with to this day.
Yet more photos, this time courtesy of Brian Wharmby. Although the panoramas may look rather tiny in your browser, they are sufficiently high resolution to zoom in so the best bet is to download the pictures and use any picture viewer you have that zooms.
Here are some more pictures, courtesy of Val Seddon:
the photos caused me to root around in my own memory box to find these two images of the 1962 intake during the summer of ’63. I’m not absolutely sure of all the names, but my recollection is:
Cs1 (l-r) Lynn ??, Elaine ??, Anne Halliday, Jean Close, Dorothy Ridings, Sandra ??, Susan ??. Barbara Newton.
CS2 (l-r) Anne Halliday, Sandra ??, Christine Ashton, A N Other, Elaine ??, Susan ??, Lynn ??.
If anyone can update the names, let me know and I will post here.
Ron Ashworth and others held a get together on Saturday 8th December, 2012 from 4.30pm at the Hen and Chickens in Bolton to celebrate this anniversary.
I didn’t make it myself: it’s a long trip from Canada and as I haven’t managed to retire yet, two previous trips to England that year used up my vacation time and a trip for one evening is less appealing than it would have been 50 years ago.
So my contribution was to to provide some pictures to jog your memories. Below are the ones I have. If anyone has any more, you can either
- post somewhere we can all get at, on the Web and tell me where – I will put a link here.
- email to me eric AT ericlawton.ca (replace the AT by an @ sign, no spaces – I do this because hackers scan web pages looking for email addresses and I don’t want to be spammed)
- send me hard copy by mail – I will scan, post here and return the original to you. A little photoshopping will probably give you a better picture than your original
If you want copies, send an email to the address above. Just ask for the picture by the caption and how many you want. Of course, you can just download from here, if you want to print your own but I have higher resolution copies of some.
I have seen recent pictures on the Canon Slade facebook page that are in colour. These are from the olden days when the world was still black-and-white.
Cost? Free of charge to Old Sladians. CDN$10,000 to paparazzi looking for celebrity photos.
The big panorama is from 1963 – the only one I have. I had to scan in sections and re-assemble. The sections are quite high resolution. If anyone’s interested I can blow up a smaller piece to quite high detail. Here’s an example with me in it.
Here are the pieces. I’m going to order a large roll of photo paper and see if I can reproduce the entire panorama at the same scale as the pieces. That might take me a while; I’m not sure how long a roll I can convince my printer is one image – it’s not really designed to do rolls.
The sports pictures below are all scanned from “The Sladian”, so aren’t very good quality. Best I could do.
